Gorse Hedging (Ulex europaeus)

This is a fantastic native evergreen prickly hedge - and when we say prickly, we mean PRICKLY! It can take up a lot of space but it's vicious spines will make sure that no-one goes where they're not supposed to.

It's also a plant with a lovely buttery yellow flower which has a strong fragrance and long flowering period - from early spring to mid summer. It's also great for difficult sites - stony or sandy soil, very windswept areas where it will provide a good windbreak, even coastal situations and whilst it will do ok on alkaline soils it prefers acid soils.
