Online Catalogue | Holly Hedging (Ilex aquifolium)
Click here for a chart of species characteristics to help you chooseEnglish Holly (Ilex aquifolium) is native plant species with very prickly, dark green leaves and gorgeous red berries. Holly is often used to give a deciduous mixed native hedge some evergreen content but it's also very popular as a classy single species hedge. From November to early April (sometimes late March), we have Holly available as bare root hedging plants which makes it a very economic way to establish a new hedge. For bushier, bulkier plants we recommend root ball plants (available from late October until early April). In root balls we use Ilex aquifolium Alaska rather than Ilex aquifolium (but we can supply "aquifolium" if you specifically want this variety eg a planning condition on native plants). Alaska is a form of the native plant but not fully native - but t it makes a better hedging plant for these tall bushy root balls so unless it absolutely has to be fully native, we think this is the better variety.Pot grown and cell grown English Holly hedge plants are available all year round. Bare roots are available from November to late MarchDon't forget to order RootGrow and/or Bonemeal.New range of beautiful topiary now available.
