Lonicera pileata is a very good evergreen species for thick, dense, low hedging - best kept at about 1m-1.2m in height. It grows laterally as well as upwards so it is no good at all where there isnt enough space for a thick hedge but it's brilliant for hedging that is fairly wide (from 60cm upwards).
It has glossy small evergreen leaves (slightly bigger leaves than it's sister Lonicera nitida but smaller than Privet) and is very good at keeping its leaves through winter. Although it does have some flowers and berries it isnt really grown for these aspects. It is good in shade but does not like very wet, windy or coastal sites. It is very easy to trim to shape.
The measurements shown for these plants are the length of the main stems - but because of it's rather lateral growth habit this is not necessarily the height.
We have pot grown Lonicera pileata plants available all year round and bare roots available from November to early April.
Don't forget to order RootGrow and/or Bonemeal.
New range of beautiful topiary now available.
