In fact it's suitable to use as a windbreak. Olearia is also fully hardy so great to use in colder coastal situations where other coastal plants would struggle. The Daisy Bush has blue tinged leaves which are white felty underneath, and a mass of pretty daisy-like flowers (bigger than daisies) with yellow centres in mid-summer. Very easy maintenance - just a trim with shears after flowering and a good mulch of compost or manure to encourage profuse flowering the following year. It may also need a quick tidy in early spring (don't leave it too late or you'll trim away the flowers). It has average growth rate and is best kept at 1m to 1.5m or slightly taller. Olearia needs well drained or dry-ish soil and likes a fairly fertile soil and prefers a sunny situation. We have pot grown plants available all year round.
