This evergreen hedging plant (which holds its leaves very well into the winter) is particularly good at the coast but performs well inland too. Of all the hedging varieties suited for the coast, Oleaster Limelight is one of the best for colder coastal positions. It is suitable for shady areas as well as full sun. Elaeagnus x ebbingei Limelight has tiny creamy white fragrant flowers in autumn and small orange fruits in spring. New leaves emerge as green with a silvery touch, and are silvery underneath and then develop the splashes of bright colour, down the centre of the leaf, that make this evergreen hedging plant special. Limelight has a medium growth rate (about 30/45cm a year) and should be trimmed to shape in spring after the berries have gone. This is a good species for hedging at 1m to 2m in height.
