Online Catalogue | Silver Variegated Holly Hedging (Ilex aquifolium Argentea Marginata)
Click here for a chart of species characteristics to help you chooseThis Silver Variegated Holly makes a spectacular, evergreen hedge, offering year round interest, a habitat and source of food for wildlife and a great intruder deterrent. Find sizes and prices below or Click HereAll Holly varieties make good hedges but this Silver Holly variety is particularly special. It has the usual prickly glossy shield like leaves but they are green and edged in cream which gives a bright coloured highlight in the garden, either as a superb formal hedge or mixed in with other species in informal garden hedging - and of course it's fantastic as an intruder proof hedge. Silver Holly needs male and female plants to produce bright red berries and we do not differentiate (impossible to tell the difference other than when they have berries) but any batch of 4 or more plants is considered suitable to achieve berries. The prickliness of this Silver Holly provides a wildlife shelter as well as the berries providing a vital food supply. Silver Holly is slow growing (about 10-20cm pa) so it needs little maintenance (a quick trim in autumn) and will grow well in all soils, other than very wet soil, and is even good at the coast or in exposed sites. It is also good in shade, although English Holly (Ilex aquifolium) is perhaps better for very shady situations. Because it is slow growing, it is quite expensive, but it is also quite special! We have pot grown plants available all year round and root balls available October to April. Don't forget to order RootGrow and/or BonemealNew range of beautiful topiary now available.
