Click here for a chart of species characteristics to help you chooseA native species, the Blackthorn hedge plant has profuse white flowers on bare black stems in April, followed by small, dark green leaves on the spiny stems and blue sloes in autumn. It's used as the main component of a mixed native hedge for wetter soils or if Hawthorn is the main component, then generally Blackthorn is added in to the mixture. It's use is very popular because of its early flowering period and profuse flowering. Despite it's name, it's not terribly thorny.Blackthorn cell grown and pot grown plants are available all year round and bare root plants are available from November to early April (sometimes late March). We have also shown in this section our Blackthorn based mixed native hedging bundles - which are 50% Blackthorn, and 10% each of Hawthorn, Dog Rose, Field Maple, Hazel and Wild Cherry.Don't forget to order RootGrow and/or Bonemeal.
