Delivery costs & timescalesDelivery Charges
We only add a delivery charge if your order is for under £40 (excl the VAT). Over that and delivery to mainland Britain is completely FREE no matter how many plants you order.
We deliver to Scottish Islands, Ireland, Channel Islands, Isle of Wight, Isle of Man and France but there are delivery supplements which vary so please call us for a bespoke quote.
If your order is under £40, a delivery charge of £5.95 plus vat will automatically be added to your shopping cart. This doesn't cover the actual cost to us but enables us to have a low minimum order value for those customers who only require a few plants.
Delivery Turnaround Timescales
We have a very experienced team packing and despatching our orders and we aim to despatch most orders within a couple of days - but there are exceptions to this.
Pre-orders of bare roots or root balls (orders placed before the season starts) will be despatched when we lift the first batches of plants in early November (depending on weather conditions). Orders placed during November will follow on as soon as we've despatched the pre-orders but we'll be bang up to date again before the end of November.
We prioritise large orders over small orders when we're in peak season in autumn and Feb/March/early April - particularly small complex orders (for multiple species) sometimes have to wait a bit longer than we'd ideally like.
Root balls are lifted when the number of orders we've received justifies using the complex machines that are needed to safely lift the plants - normally it's once a week during the root ball season of late October to early April, more often in seasonal peak weeks (which tends just to exclude the very end of Dec and very beginning of Jan). Please ring us before you order if the despatch date is critical.
We keep all the pot grown species in stock all year round and despatch over 90% of orders the day after the order is received - occasionally there are temporary delays whilst more stock is brought to our despatch centre - if despatch is going to be more than a week after your order, we'll contact you.
All the cell grown plants shown in the website are kept in stock and are despatched within a couple of days (excl weekends).
Weather conditions can affect despatch - plants are not lifted if the ground is too cold (it damages the roots) or if the water supply is frozen (because we water all plants before packing). Extremely hot weather is equally challenging and occasionally we hold back orders for species that are particularly vulnerable.
We'd like to stress that although there are exceptions, the vast majority of our orders are despatched within a couple of days of the order being received.
