Alder hedge (Alnus glutinosa) description

For a reliable, low maintenance hedge, Alder is a great option. It grows well in poor soils and only requires light pruning. Common alder also acts as a wildlife sanctuary for birds, caterpillars, butterflies and many other insects.

Most popular uses of Alder hedging

Alder is particularly low maintenance and is one of the very few species to thrive in very wet soils. The other great attribute of an alder hedge is that it improves poor quality soil benefiting all other plants in the surroundings.
