Mature Pleached Beech Trees (Fagus sylvatica) are eternally popular. Beech is a classic native hedging plant with soft green, feathery edged, semi-shiny leaves which are instantly recognisable and grows into a beautiful, lush screen in its pleached form. Through the autumn and winter months, Beech leaves become a rich coppery-brown providing for autumnal interest. Some leaf cover will be seen through winter as most leaves will remain on the branches until new growth pushes through in the spring.
The term 'pleached' refers to trees that are trained to form a screen of branches and foliage with a single straight stem. The single stem of this pleached tree is 200cm tall. Planted in rows at set distances, these trees form an elevated 'green wall' that is a great alternative to high fencing. Pleached trees are often used to screen unsightly buildings and can be grown above an existing wall or fence. Used in this way pleached trees can extend the height of a privacy screen to 3 metres or more.
Mature pleached trees are established trees with full growth development on the screen framework compared to the fresh pleached versions. Having been carefully nurtured and trained over an extended period of time, these stunning specimens are immediately impressive with beautiful, dense screens that when in full leaf, offer excellent shade and privacy immediately on planting.
