Easily recognised for its snow white bark, the Betula Utiliss Jacquemontii Snow Queen is a great option for a smaller garden tree. Unlike the Doorenbos variety, Snow Queen is a less vigorous Birch tree that develops its ‘Snow Queen’ colour earlier than most.

  • Common Name: Himalayan Birch Snow Queen
  • Best Features: Yellow and brown catkins, white bark, autumn colour, peeling bark, RHS AGM
  • Position: Moist – normal soil, full sun-partial shade, sheltered or exposed
  • Height and spread in 20 years: 7 x 3.5m

This Himalayan Birch Tree provides colour throughout the year. In spring the green foliage is adorned with yellow catkins before the green leaves turn a warm, buttery yellow in autumn. The white bark peels away to reveal a warm brown underlay whilst the light and airy canopy prevents this large tree from feeling too intrusive.

The Himalayan Birch Tree grows well in most sites and is a hardy variety that prefers full sun to partial shade.

Pot grown and cell grown plants are available year round and make a great option when planting a hedge. Pots come in various sizes, as do the plants grown in them, and can be planted when convenient for you. These plants will be happy in their pots, given enough water, until you’re ready to plant. Cell Grown plants are usually small, 10-30cm and a great step between Pots and Bare Roots.

Bare root hedging plants are extremely popular. They are delivered and should be planted during the dormant season (usually November to April) and can be pre ordered from mid-summer. We recommend pre-ordering where possible to reserve your plants but take new orders right the way through the season. Bare roots are a cost effective way of planting a new hedge.

Root balls are generally available from October through to April/May, though some species are available year round. The plants are field grown and then lifted with a ‘ball’ of soil around the roots that is secured with hessian and sometimes wire. Root balls are often very impressive plants that can be pre ordered from mid-summer.

Instant hedging provides immediate impact to any project. These hedge units are grown in troughs or strong bags where they are shaped and pruned over many years to create a hedging panel that is already knitted together, producing an impressive instant hedge. Instant hedging is available to plant year round.
