Prunus padus, or Bird Cherry as it is commonly known, is a popular addition to a mixed native hedge. However, Bird Cherry hedge plants are also great for a stand-alone hedge or when grown as a hedgerow tree. Prunus padus boasts racemes of almond-scented flowers in spring, followed by black cherries in autumn. The bitter fruits are a favourite with birds who will strip them from the branches in no time!

Have you considered our best selling Discounted Mixed Native Hedging Packs?

  • Best Features: White almond-scented flowers, black cherries, wildlife-friendly
  • Ideal For Hedges: 1m-4m high
  • Growth Rate: Average | 20-40cm a year
  • Position: Normal soil, partial shade to full sun, sheltered, inland
  • Also Consider: Wild Cherry (Prunus avium) for white flowers and red cherries or Crab Apple (Malus sylvestris) for pink-flushed flowers and colourful fruit.

*Please note, 1 bare root = 1 Bird Cherry plant, not a bundle of plants. We use a mixture of bare root photos taken in leaf from our growing sites in summer, as well as during the bare root planting season when Bird Cherry may be defoliated.
