Gardening events for you and the kids this month

It’s the summer holidays and the kids are off school. Now we are faced with the challenge and the never ending question of “what should we do with the kids this summer?” Well here at Best4hedges, we have included our favorite of the many gardening events spread across the UK which are perfect for you and your kids to enjoy.

16th Jul – 21st Aug: The Rocket Science Exhibition is full of photographs and panels from Exeter University together with those from the RHS Rocket Science exhibition at Hampton Court Palace Flower Show in 2015. The exhibition which takes place at RHS Garden Rosemore, will be augmented by a hydroponic display and a chance for visitors to vote for the vegetable they think would be the best one to take into space.

23rd Jul – 29th Aug: Rocket Science Summer Holidays at RHS Garden Rosemore is full of fantastic family activities. They include Cosmic Crafts, Storytelling, Puppet Theatre workshops and Intergalactic Trails. The activities vary daily so have a look at their online information so you don’t miss out on the ones you want to do the most.

2nd Aug – 29th Sep: Spend an evening with the rangers at Polesden Lacey discovering all that is hidden in the dark with the National Trusts’s Bat Walks. The majority of the evening will be spent looking and listening out for bats swooping across the night sky seeing them dart and dive and hear their ‘silent’ nocturnal calls with special detectors.

6th Aug: Family Wildtime at Chatsworth House in Derbishire. Teamwork and imagination is needed for this family friendly day out. You’ll build a den with the natural materials and create a bug den/hotel to take home for your own garden.

10th Aug: “Guaranteed to be an afternoon of getting mucky and having fun!” Join staff from Logan Botanic Garden and the RSPB to build a “Buggingham Palace” at the Give Bugs A Home event at Logan Botanic Garden in Edinburgh.

20th-21st Aug: Find your way around the world’s largest turf maze and other labyrinths at Saffron Walden Maze Festival in Essex. There are puzzles, workshops and races to keep the whole family entertained.

26th Aug: A day of fancy dress, food and fun at the Teddy Bears Picnic & Pirate Fete at Birmingham Botanical Gardens. Take your teddy on a Treasure Hunt around the Gardens, bring a picnic and enjoy the Gardens at their best. There will also be Face Painting, a competition for the best fancy dress, a Bouncy Castle, Arts and Crafts and much more.
