Ideal for coastal or inland sites Rosa canina will grow in almost any soil. The red and orange fruits are tasty for birds whilst the spikey dense cover makes a good retreat for wildlife. Dog Rose is a rambling shrub, it will create a bushy hedge but it most commonly is combined with other shrubs to produce an intruder proof barrier and add summer flower interest. As a fast and scrambling grower, Dog Rose will achieve 40-60cm a year and you can easily maintain your dog rose hedge at 1-3m.
