In areas where rabbits and hares can be a costly nuisance to young plants, the solution for some species and in particular bare roots, is to use rabbit guards around the lower stem of the plant.
Our Eco Wrap Rabbit Guards are quick and easy to install and provide excellent protection from hares and rabbits as well as inclement weather. Rabbits can only reach up 60cm (though hares can reach higher); using rabbit guards can help protect the base, lower stem and any foliage from damage, which gives it the best chance to establish.
The guards are made from transparent Polypropylene so adequate light reaches the plant, and inside, the guard acts as a trap for both heat and moisture, which helps the plant to thrive. The rabbit guard expands as the plant grows and provides a consistent level of protection for at least three growing seasons - time enough to develop and become stronger, more woody and much less attractive to local wildlife!
