An exotic evergreen hedging plant, Fargesia rufa Bamboo forms an elegant screen of small, delicate stems with a weeping habit, lending it the names of Fountain Bamboo or Dragon Head Bamboo.

Dragon Head Bamboo hedge (Fargesia rufa) description
Dragon Head Bamboo hedging provides a great year-round focal point in any garden due to its tall, thin green canes encased in rusty red sheaths, with relatively dense foliage for a bamboo. Unlike, many other bamboo plants, this variety is bushy all the way to the ground making it ideal for hedging. As it is a fast-growing, clump-forming plant, it is best situated in a spacious area, allowing it room to spread or plant where the roots will be constrained (or use a root barrier).

Care and pruning advice for Dragon Head Bamboo hedging
As Fountain Bamboo is very fast growing and clump-forming it needs to be pruned regularly to prevent from spreading farther than desired. In the spring, unwanted or spindly canes should be cut down to ground level. New shoots should also be pruned once they grow taller than the rest of the hedge.
