Acer campestre or Field Maple hedge plants are a lovely native species. Field Maple is known for its mid-green foliage which turns buttery yellow in the autumn just before the winged seeds develop. A fast growing hedging plant, Field Maple is popularly grown in a Native Mix, though looks equally as attractive when grown alone.

Field Maple hedge (Acer campestre) description

A lovely native plant, Acer campestre has mid-green foliage which is red tinged in the spring. The seeds, like little helicopters, are closely followed by clear yellow autumn colour which will brighten any garden.

A fast grower, Field Maple is ideal for informal garden hedging, though it can be clipped to shape. Acer campestre is often used in Native mixes to add a splash of autumn colour and being suited to coastal and exposed sites it is a useful choice.
