Why use mulch mat?

  • Suppresses competing and unsightly weed growth
  • Allows water and air to pass through
  • Insulates the soil
  • 100% degradable over time

Our mulch matting is up there with some of the best; UK made, from 100% recycled materials such as re-pulled Oxfam clothing, tailors wool clippings and recycled jute sacking from the cocoa and coffee trade, it's great for your plants as well as the environment.

This mulch mat is needle punched onto a degradable polythene backing allowing both water and air to pass through to the soil whilst the wool top layer insulates.

Simply prepare your planting holes or trench then lay the mulch mat on top of the soil before planting and using a sharp knife cut a cross 'X' in the mulch mat over the top of each corresponding hole. Then plant your plants through the mulch mat into the ground beneath. The mulch mat can be left bare or covered with decorative stone or bark chip.

Pot grown and cell grown plants are available year round and make a great option when planting a hedge. Pots come in various sizes, as do the plants grown in them, and can be planted when convenient for you. These plants will be happy in their pots, given enough water, until you’re ready to plant. Cell Grown plants are usually small, 10-30cm and a great step between Pots and Bare Roots.

Bare root hedging plants are extremely popular. They are delivered and should be planted during the dormant season (usually November to April) and can be pre ordered from mid-summer. We recommend pre-ordering where possible to reserve your plants but take new orders right the way through the season. Bare roots are a cost effective way of planting a new hedge.

Root balls are generally available from October through to April/May, though some species are available year round. The plants are field grown and then lifted with a ‘ball’ of soil around the roots that is secured with hessian and sometimes wire. Root balls are often very impressive plants that can be pre ordered from mid-summer.

Instant hedging provides immediate impact to any project. These hedge units are grown in troughs or strong bags where they are shaped and pruned over many years to create a hedging panel that is already knitted together, producing an impressive instant hedge. Instant hedging is available to plant year round.
