Benefits of planting with pot grown hedging plants:

  • You can plant year-round, there are no seasonal restrictions like with bare root plants and root ball plants
  • Pot grown plants have a high success rate as the roots have been completely protected by the pot
  • Pot hedging plants do not need to be planted into the ground straight away. As long as they are kept watered they can wait up to a few weeks or whenever is most convenient for you

Unlike bare root and root ball plants which are left to grow in fields until they are ready, pot grown plants take a lot more work on our side. They require watering, feeding, weeding and re-potting regularly by our highly skilled nursery staff. This amount of work is reflected in the cost. When you purchase pot grown plants you will receive, strong, bushy plants with a high success rate so they do cost more than bare roots or small cell grown plants.

In our product information, we list the size of the hedge pots as well as the height of the plant. This provides an indication of the maturity of the roots. For example, a 5L pot with a 60cm plant will be bushier than a 3L pot at 60cm height. This is because the roots are more mature meaning the plant is older and therefore bushier than the plant in the smaller pot.

Best4hedging also sell P9s and P7s, these refer to very small pots (i.e. 7cm). P7s and P9s are in between cell grown and pot grown plants, they are slightly bigger than cell grown plants and smaller than pot grown. Although they are small plants they have a strong root system. They are ideal for when you require a tall hedge very quickly as they are relatively small but will take well.
