When buying rabbit guards to protect young, deciduous plants whose lower leaves are attractive to rabbits, it's often advisable to purchase canes alongside this as they offer extra support to the plants but also help to fix the rabbit guard into place.  Canes are also useful in windy or coastal areas where young plants may need extra support to remain upright.

Canes are also good to use with newly planted bare root plants (up to 1m in height), as they help keep them in place and upright. After they've been in place for a few days, check the stability and firm back in again if found to be loose.
