Cotoneaster franchetii hedge plants make for a tough, evergreen shrub displaying small, oval leaves on arching branches. Franchet's Cotoneaster is suited to coastal sites and heavy shade, and provides year-round interest, with grey-green foliage, blush white flowers and red/dark orange berries.
This evergreen hedging is perfect for exposed sites, coastal or inland, and grows well in any soil that isn't very wet. In extremely cold winters, some of the foliage from your Cotoneaster franchetii hedge plants may turn autumnal shades before falling; however, they will generally stay fully evergreen, providing a good screen and windbreak. Unlike some other varieties of Cotoneaster hedging, such as Horizontalis, Franchet's Cotoneaster has an upright habit and is self-supporting. Cotoneaster franchetii makes a great habitat for wildlife, mainly birds, who feed on the red/dark orange winter berries that also provide seasonal interest.
Common uses of Franchet's Cotoneaster hedging
Cotoneaster franchetii hedge plants are easily maintained in a neat shape for formal hedging but look equally as appealing when left slightly bushy, working well for garden and landscape hedging alike. Being an evergreen variety, Cotoneaster franchetii also makes a great privacy screen hedge and windbreak, whilst muffling noise pollution such as loud roads.
Combine Cotoneaster hedgingwith
When grown alone, Franchet's Cotoneaster hedging creates a dense, effective and attractive feature, without the need for companion plants to provide added impact.
Growth rate of Cotoneaster franchetii hedge plants
With an average growth rate, Franchet's Cotoneaster hedging will normally achieve about 20 - 40cm of growth per year and is perfect for heights of 1-2m.
