A low-growing, rounded, compact evergreen conifer with striking bright blue-grey foliage, Blue Star Juniper makes a lovely ornamental addition to front of borders and beds or grown in pots for year-round texture and colour. Very hardy, tolerant of most growing conditions and very low maintenance, this stunning plant is both resilient and versatile.
Juniper 'Blue Star' is also commonly known as Flaky Juniper but its full name is Juniperus squamata 'Blue Star'. A dwarf conifer with small, dense spiky needles, it is a most coveted plant for its incredibly colourful foliage which is a striking bright blue-grey. Probably the most colourful of all conifers, it differs from othre conifers in that rather than growing upright and tall, it grows as a rounded yet somewhat flattened ground-cover plant and is perfect for adding structure, texture and colour to beds, borders, rockeries or even pots.
Juniper 'Blue Star' grows best in full sun or partial shade but is tolerant of all soil types as long as they are well drained. It's drought tolerant and exceptionally hardy, handling even the coldest winters or hottest summers and needs practically no pruning or maintenance, making it a popular choice for lesser experienced gardeners.
This eye-catching shrub grows very slowly and reaches only around 50cm high and 1m spread at maturity.
