Euonymus japonicus 'Ovatus Aureus', more commonly known as Japanese Spindle, is a wonderfully colourful shrub with golden yellow and green evergreen foliage. The oval shaped leaves of the Euonymus japonicus 'Ovatus Aureus' are margined with bright yellow, surrounding a dark green centre. In summer, pale green flowers appear, occasionally followed by pink fruits in autumn but this is a species grown primarily for its ornamental foliage.

Spindle 'Ovatus Aureus' hedge (Euonymus japonicus 'Ovatus Aureus') description

In order for the brightest variegation to occur, it is best to plant Euonymus japonicus 'Ovatus Aureus' in full sun however it can be planted in partial shade. Euonymus japonicus 'Ovatus Aureus' is capable of withstanding windy, coastal and exposed sites and will take to all but the wettest of soils.

We use this variety and Euonymus japonicus 'Marieke' interchangeably as there is no discernible difference to Euonymus japonicus 'Ovatus Aureus'. If you do particularly want one or the other variety, please speak to us.
