This mixed collection of English and French Lavender is a delightful mix offering an excellent variety of colour, form and fragrance along with an extended flowering time from late spring through to late summer. From the traditional long, slender flower spires of English Lavender to the shorter, stubby and tufty-eared flowers of French Lavender, this mixed collection offers fantastic visual appeal and delightful scent to entice the senses!
This collection of 6 x 2L pots will be made up of a selection of the following Lavender varieties but is dependent upon stock and availability at time of purchase:
3 x Classic English Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia Munstead)
3 x Lavender Hidcote (Lavandula angustifolia Hidcote)
French Lavender (Lavandula stoechas) unavailable at present
The Mixed Lavender Collection should be grown in a sheltered, sunny spot with well-drained soil. Lavender plants do not tolerate shade or very wet conditions, particularly with cold/ freezing temperatures or heavy soil. Some cover might be required over winter to protect the plants from weather damage.
Trim spent flower heads to encourage further flower production during the flowering season. In late summer, prune the plants back by around a third of their growth to allow light into the centre of the plants. This will allow new shoots to form shortly before the plants go into dormancy. The new shoots will then grow and produce flowers the following summer.
Although classed as evergreen perennials, when grown in the cooler UK climate Lavender plants do go into dormancy from early autumn until late spring. During this time, foliage turns brown and twiggy, appearing to die back. This is perfectly normal and as the weather warms in late spring, your Lavender plants will once again become green and develop growth ready for summmer flowering.
